Fatherhood

Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there! This year, I received the gift of poetry. My wife has been known to write a poem when the mood takes her, and she wrote me a lovely haiku for Father’s Day ❤️

Haiku is a favorite form of mine, and in this sparse space, my wife captured something we have discussed over the years: the new life of children comes as parents give up their lives in many ways, face their own limitations, and experience a kind of breaking through caregiving. Parenting is hard and wonderful in this way. There is a sweet fellowship with Jesus in it, who gave up His life so that we could be God’s children.

So without further ado, I give you “Fatherhood” by Carrie McKamey 😊❤️

Fatherhood

Foot loose, fancy free
Broken by love and weakness
Death gives way to life
